What Connect-A-Pro asks

  • Is this repair or replacement?
  • What type of roof do you have?
  • Is there an active leak or storm damage?
  • When do you need the work handled?

Roofers: compare repair and replacement scopes

Roof leak repair and storm damage

Describe when a leak appeared, the location of interior staining and the roof material if known. Photos taken safely from the ground can help. Ask a roofer which area the repair covers, how hidden damage is handled and what the repair warranty includes.

Shingle, metal and flat roof replacement

For a roof replacement, compare the exact roofing material, tear-off, decking allowances, underlayment and flashing. A flat or low-slope roof may need a different system from a pitched shingle or metal roof. Ask roofing contractors to explain ventilation, disposal, site protection and separate workmanship and material warranties.

Roof inspections and estimates

Say whether you want an assessment of a leak, the overall roof condition or a repair-versus-replacement opinion. Ask what the roof inspection includes, whether it has a fee and whether findings and photographs will be provided in writing.

Comparing roof repair and replacement estimates

Describe the roof type, approximate age and visible symptoms. Provide photos you can take safely; you do not need to climb onto the roof.

Repair boundaries

Ask which area the repair covers, what caused the issue and whether hidden damage could change the price. Ask how extra work will be approved.

Replacement materials

Compare tear-off, decking allowances, underlayment, flashing, ventilation and the exact proposed roofing product rather than comparing the total alone.

Site protection and warranty

Ask about permits, disposal, protection of landscaping, cleanup and separate material and workmanship warranties.

Use our free worksheet to compare up to three quotes, record exclusions and print your questions.

Example: how to describe your project

This is an illustrative planning example, not a customer review or a completed Connect-A-Pro job. Adapt it to your home and leave out details you do not know.

I would like an assessment of my shingle roof and separate recommendations for repair or replacement. I know its approximate age and can describe the areas of concern from ground level. Please explain the proposed scope, how hidden decking damage would be priced and what cleanup and warranties are included.

Include your project ZIP and preferred timing when submitting a request. Share contact details through the form rather than including them in project photos.

Local project coverage and availability

Our Volusia and Flagler launch area includes Ormond Beach, Daytona Beach, Port Orange, DeLand and Palm Coast, plus other communities listed on our service-area page. Eligibility is checked by the property's exact ZIP and the type of work.

Homeowner requests are not open yet. We are collecting homeowner interest by service and ZIP, and this guide is available to help you plan. A request does not guarantee a response, estimate or start date.

Who sets the project price?

The contractor provides the estimate and agrees on the work with you. Connect-A-Pro's cost tools are planning aids, not binding quotes. Discuss scope, exclusions, payment terms and scheduling directly with the contractor.

How can I compare costs and find an affordable option?

Ask each contractor to price the same work, including preparation, materials, access, disposal and any extra charges. An hourly rate, square-foot price and fixed project quote cover different things unless the assumptions match. Use the estimate-comparison worksheet to record the full price and questions before you choose.

How do I evaluate a local contractor?

Review relevant experience, recent references, insurance and any license required for your specific work. Confirm who will perform the work and get the scope and payment terms in writing. A directory listing or a claim to be the cheapest or best does not replace those checks.

Use our local contractor hiring checklist for official license searches, insurance questions and building-department links for Volusia and Flagler.

Before you request a contractor

Photos of visible damage can help contractors understand the project.

Roof painting/coating remains a Painting & Coatings project rather than a roofing replacement project.

Roofing work may require appropriately licensed and insured contractors.
